The Betway Summer Cup - Joburg’s biggest horse race

The Summer Cup, Joburg’s biggest horse race takes place on Saturday 25 November 2023.

Johannesburg’s 4Racing and sponsor Betway announced in August that the 2023 Betway Summer Cup will have a record stake of R5m this year. This is double the R2.5m stakes pot that was on offer for Johannesburg’s flagship race in 2022.

The inception of this great event was in 1887 where each year crowds flock to Turffontein to experience the excitement of horse racing.

The race boasts exemplary quality fields and a large prize, the R5 million race offers a day of electrifying racing, while making the sport accessible and fun for young and old alike.

There’s something for everyone at the People’s Race. Attendees can enjoy the day with a pick of a wide variety of stylish hospitality areas where the attendees can enjoy electrifying racing, good food, drinks, roving fashion shows and exceptional live music.
